Managing children’s eczema can be challenging for parents, and many factors can influence how well children’s eczema is controlled. The purpose of this study is to find out whether having parents participate in a specially-adapted online version of the Triple P - Positive Parenting Program, in addition to usual care, can improve outcomes for children with eczema and their families.
The Triple P - Positive Parenting Program is a well-established system of parenting and family support which can be tailored to suit individual families' needs. The program we are using for this study is called Positive Parenting for Healthy Living Triple P. It is a specially-adapted version of Triple P for parents of children with a health condition. The program is self-directed and delivered completely online.
The online modules are designed to help parents to reduce the impact of their child’s illness and manage their child’s health condition effectively. They introduce the principles of positive parenting, promote positive parenting practices and caring relationships between parents and their children, and help parents to develop effective discipline strategies.
We have previously tested this program in a face-to-face group-delivered format with parents of children with eczema, and it had positive effects on child and parent health and wellbeing. The purpose of this study is to test whether delivering the program using a self-directed online format can also improve outcomes for children and families. If the program is found to be effective, it may be made available to families of children with eczema as part of standard eczema care in the future.
This project is being funded by the Children’s Hospital Foundation (ECF0112020).
