Welcome to the trial of Resilience Triple P
for autistic children who are bullied.

What is Resilience Triple P?

Resilience Triple P was developed for children who are bullied at school and their families. The program consists of 12 sessions. Eight sessions are for children (with parents attending). In these sessions children learn friendship skills and how to respond to bullying and conflict. The other four sessions are for parents and in these we look at strategies to help children develop emotional resilience and social problem-solving skills and ways to communicate with schools to encourage an effective response to issues.

What is involved?

You will be allocated to a Resilience Triple P program in the next few weeks. You will complete three assessment sessions over 9 months. Assessment sessions will run for two hours, and you will complete questionnaires while a researcher asks your child questions. We will also ask you to share with us a copy of your child’s school report card. Additionally, we will ask permission to inform your child’s school that you are interested in being involved in this trial and ask your child’s teacher to complete brief questionnaires at three times corresponding to your assessment sessions. Interventions and assessments will be delivered via telehealth by a provisional psychologist or a psychologist.

What will my family gain?

Resilience Triple P is designed to reduce your child’s peer victimisation and related distress.

Is my family eligible to participate?

To be eligible to participate, you need to have a child who:

  • has been diagnosed with ASD by a paediatrician or psychologist,
  • is aged between 7 and 12 years,
  • lives at home,
  • attends a mainstream primary school in Australia,
  • and has experienced either ongoing bullying for at least the past month or a recurrent problem with being bullied for at least the past year.

To be eligible to participate, you will also need to be able to access the internet through a computer that has a camera, microphone, and speakers to complete intervention and assessment sessions via telehealth.
