The Fab Study - About this Study
Who can participate in this research study?
We have a few criteria to ensure that we collect data from a wide range of people. To make sure that you are a good fit, we ask that you complete the questionnaire here, or under the How to Participate tab on the left hand side, which will take 3 to 5 minutes. Your answers will help us to find out if you can take part.
If you meet our criteria, you will be immediately directed to the next step. At that stage, we will provide you with more specific information about the study. If you agree to participate after reading that information, you will be asked to electronically agree to an informed consent form. Once we have your consent, you will be directed to the study questionnaires about yourself and your family system.
If you do not meet the criteria to participate in this study, you will not be directed to the next step. The most common reason for not meeting our criteria is that we may already have enough volunteers who filled up the number of participants required at that time.
Are there any benefits for participants?
There are no expected direct benefits for participants involved in this study. However, the results of this study may help us to better understand the functioning of family units, which may, in turn, help to improve the quality of life for parents and their children.
Are there any risks for participants?
To our knowledge, there are no foreseeable risk or discomfort for participants in this research beyond that of the time to complete the questionnaires. However, if you do experience any distress related to your participation, we encourage you to access the following website where you can find information about mental health services you can access depending on where you are in the world.

Ethical approval
This study adheres to the guidelines of the ethical review process at The University of Queensland and the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. You are more than welcome to discuss your participation in this study with the project staff through their details provided in Contact Us.

How will your confidentiality be protected?
Please be assured that yours and your child’s confidentiality will be securely protected at all times and no personally identifiable information will be requested. We also assure you that we will never publicly release your responses in a way that could identify you, your child, or any other family members. We will not use your information for any purpose outside of the research study.
